JOB SEEKER VISA
Validity & Duration
- Initial Stay: 120 days to look for employment.
- Extension: You can apply for a one-time extension of 60 days (total max 180 days).
Who Is It For?
- Non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals aged 18+ who don’t yet have a job offer in Portugal.
- Ideal for professionals with university degrees or relevant experience.
Eligibility Requirements
- Valid Passport (6 months)
- Clean Criminal Record Certificate from your residence country (and if applicable)
- Health/Travel insurance covering Portugal for entire duration (90–30k € coverage)
- Proof of accommodation (hotel booking, rental, or sponsor letter)
- Financial means: minimum ~3000 Euros (approx. 3 × Portugal’s minimum wage) in savings or from a sponsor
Required Documents
- Completed visa application form + 2 passport photos
- Passport copy + valid legal status in country of application
- Criminal record certificate
- Travel insurance policy
- Flight reservation (return ticket)
- Bank statements / sponsor proof
- Cover/motivation letter or “stay plan” detailing intentions and job search strategy
- Diplomas, CV, and any letters of reference or certifications
Fees
- Visa fee: approx. €90 (345 AED), payable at the Portuguese Embassy/VFS
- After a job is secured, additional fees apply for:
- SEF/AIMA submission (~€83)
- Work permit issuance (~€72)
Processing & Timeline
- Processing takes ~2–3 months (UAE applicants should apply at least 8 weeks in advance)
- Submit visa renewal/extension before the initial 120-day period ends
Benefits
- Upon securing employment, apply for the SEF Temporary Residence Permit (art. 77) within your visa’s validity
- Residence permit initially valid for 2 years; renewable, with a path to permanent residency and citizenship after 5 years
